Weekend Home Projects to Alleviate Post-Super Bowl Blues
Here are some weekend projects I recommend to take your mind off those empty Sundays:
Wainscoting
Wainscoting encompasses a wide variety of paneling styles and is used to enhance many different interior spaces, including mantels, stairways, home galleries, and more. DIY blog Sunlit Spaces has a great list of wainscoting ideas here. When picking the style, consider the impact you want to make in your room. Do you prefer a formal look, or something more casual? Traditional or modern? Would you like to make a statement in the room or do you prefer a more subdued style? There are a lot of options!
A common style that fits many spaces is two-tone wainscoting. If this look is right for your home, I recommend purchasing Finished Elegance for an easy, durable installation.
Replace a door and repurpose the old one
Most of us have at least one pesky door nagging to be replaced – whether the style is dated, it blocks too much light, or the pets have ruined it. Replacing a door can transform an entire room. The first steps to replacing a door are choosing style and materials. Vanessa Brunner of Houzz has a great guide to selecting interior doors here. You can see a collection of customizable styles from Woodgrain here.
Once you’ve replaced the door, consider repurposing it. CountryLiving suggests 17 ideas ranging from entertainment console (for when football season finally returns!) to hanging picnic tables for summer entertaining.
Moulding art
Hear me out. Moulding art may sound like the worst possible football replacement, but Better Homes and Gardens has some awesome ideas here. My favorites are the kids’ art gallery and the headboard.
These three ideas are just the start. Once you get on a roll, you may find that home improvement projects are the perfect football replacement. (OK, that’s clearly an exaggeration, but you can see where I’m coming from.) Let us hear about your results!
